Who am I?
I’m a poet and publisher. I’m the author of A Turkish Dictionary and the managing editorial director at Rebind Publishing. In the past, I’ve been the managing editor of Les Figues Press, where I edited and published the press’s first two Publishers Weekly starred books (Colin Winnette’s Coyote and Mariko Nagai’s Irradiated Cities). I’m the co-founder and long-time editorial director of literary journal and chapbook press The Offending Adam. I previously taught writing at Koç University (Istanbul) and UNLV. I’ve also spent nearly a decade working in education technology.
My current interests are in the practice of publishing, and specifically how to build communities, audiences, editorial practices, and publishing practices that support the ongoing creation, curation, and elevation of literature. Since founding The Offending Adam in 2009, I’ve explored how new technologies can be used to build publishing platforms and models to broaden access, deepen understanding, and create new kinds of literature.
Some of my favorite writers of the moment are W.G. Sebald, Benjamin Labatut, Nora Lange, Jena Osman, Donald Revell, Aditi Machado, and Bilge Karasu.
As will likely come up in some of my posts, I’m also a student of wine. While I’m unsure what wine certifications mean, especially for an enthusiast, I have the WSET Level 3 and Spanish Wine Scholar certifications. I’m particularly interested in Santa Barbara County and Spanish wines, specifically wines from Sta Rita Hills, Rioja, and Green Spain.
